The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (W198), also called the butterfly due to the way its doors opened, was introduced to the public in 1954. It very quickly became a household name, and has since kept that fame. Considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cars of all time worldwide, the German car is an absolute masterpiece. This is partly due to Max Hoffmann, an American car salesman, who convinced Mercedes to produce a road version of the W194, going so far as to pay upfront for 1000 cars.
