For the customers for which the standard versions of the 356 were not enough, Porsche has proposed versions more like the competition models but that were registered for use on the road. The 356 B Carrera 2 was equipped with a Carrera engine, with a cylinder capacity of 1.966 cm3, a very sharp dual overhead camshaft, whose name pays homage to a racing car.
